Your Target Audience
Who are they and what do they need?
Once you have an idea for a nonfiction book that you’d like to write about, and you’ve determined why you should write your own book, it’s time to identify your target audience.
People suggest that we should create a description of who that audience should be, but how do we determine who that audience will be?
A lot of people get stuck in identifying their target audience, so I am going to make it easier for you. The first person that you should consider as your target audience is yourself.
Your Low Hanging Fruit
One of the easiest ways of identifying your audience is to use yourself as an example. Who are you? Male? Female? Age group? Education status? Where do you live? What do you believe about the world and the subject that you plan to write about? Why do you want to write about this topic? How would your book benefit people like you?
One of the reasons that you want to identify your demographics is to put down in print who you are and what you believe in. I find it easiest to write about a topic from my own viewpoint. As Shakespeare said, “To own self be true.”
