What is Your Mission Statement?
Over the years I have had a lot of different ideas about what my mission statement should say. For a long time, I just copied what others were saying in theirs. It was not authentic at all and seeing what I do as a business has never really come into fruition. Perhaps I really didn’t understand what my mission should be and that has been standing in the way of my success. Without a mission, I didn’t understand the “why”.
The Moment of Clarity
At the farmers’ market on Saturday a visitor asked me what my mission statement was. I really didn’t know the answer to that question. Then she said that yes, creative people all have a lot of ideas swimming around in their heads. She said we all have different ideas that don’t seem to connect with one another. She then suggested looking at all that I am doing and finding one word that described all of it.
What one Word Describes Your Mission in Life?
I immediately knew that one word. That word was sustainability. Every nonfiction book that I wrote was about sustaining some aspect of what I do. My new series that I am working on The Perpetual Homesteader is all about sustainability.
