Why did the turtle cross the road?

It is that time of year again!

Here in Missouri during when temperatures start to rise, and I often have to dodge box turtles that are crossing the road. Some turtles aren’t as lucky as others as often I see the roadkill remains of this shell- covered reptile.

Experts say that the turtles are in search of food and mates.

Personally, I think they just want to ask a chicken for directions. (Obviously, the turtle is female if it is asking anything or anyone for directions!)

Many turtles stay close to where they were hatched throughout their entire lives, but some travel great distances. Tracked by biologists, one turtle traveled more than six miles before they lost track of him.

Most turtles around here live 15–30 years, but some can live 50–80 years and some even over 100! They eat plants, earthworms, and insects.

Have You Heard the One About the Texan who came to Visit his Friend in Missouri?

Once a Texan flew in to the Missouri Ozarks to visit a friend. His friend picked him up at the airport in Springfield and was driving down the road when they came across a dog at the side of the road.

“What’s that?” the Texan asked his friend.
