This whole idea got me to thinking about why a writer should prefer to write for themselves rather than for a market.

I write what I want to write because I want to enjoy what I am doing so I don't worry about what the market claims to want now.

When J. K. Rowling began the Harry Potter series, she didn't write because the market was there. She created the market and others jumped on her bandwagon.
