I have a feeling that your mother is still harboring resentment against your father and that resentment is contributing to her disease. True, your father's desertion cannot be forgotten, but forgiveness is necessary for you and your mother. Please realize that your father's wife and your father have suffered because they didn't have you in their life and that is their loss. I believe that pity is the first step in forgiveness.
