Create a Beneficial Wildlife Garden

Just as you need food, water, and shelter, so do beneficial amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals that you want to encourage in your garden and yard.

A great place to start helping beneficials is by providing beneficials with water and the perfect place to start providing water is by adding a birdbath. A birdbath not only provides water for birds, but other animals and insects will appreciate the source too. You can either buy one or create your own by recycling a shallow pan that has a dull finish. Adding a fountain to your birdbath will discourage mosquitoes and aerate the water.

Attracting Amphibians to Your Garden

Frogs and toads are an integral part of nature’s life cycle and will eat dozens of insects per day. Creating a great habitat will help keep them around to help maintain nature’s balance in your yard and garden.

Amphibians don’t hydrate themselves by drinking it, but by submerging themselves into the water and absorbing that water through their skin. A shallow pond with water plants in a shaded area near your gardens are ideal locations for frogs and salamanders. These amphibians eat mosquitoes and other insect pests.
